Front Street Taproom Trivia Recap — Friday, May 15, 2026 -- The Night Accuracy Wasn't Enough

Friday night at Front Street Taproom delivered one of the tightest finishes in recent memory — a final margin of just 1,692 points separated the champion from the runner-up across 80 questions and four rounds of trivia. But the real story wasn't who knew the most answers. It was who knew when to bet big.

The Players

Four teams settled in for the evening at the Taproom, with a fifth joining mid-game:

  • BNA — the eventual champion, playing a steady and strategic game all night
  • Hawkeye Fans — neck and neck with BNA from start to finish
  • Still those people — the accuracy kings who couldn't catch a break on wagers
  • Kid on left — joined during Round 2 and made the most of Round 3

Round 1: Poker Face (Casino & Gambling)

The night opened with a casino-themed round covering everything from the Monte Carlo Casino's home country to the color of $100 chips. Wager categories included "Gambling in Movies" and "Count Your Chips."

Hawkeye Fans took the early lead with 4,729 points on 50% accuracy, while BNA followed close behind at 3,652 points with 45% accuracy. But the headline belonged to Still those people, who answered an impressive 16 of 20 questions correctly (80% accuracy) yet walked away with exactly zero points. A devastating wager loss wiped out everything they'd earned despite being the most knowledgeable team in the room.

Round 2: Bite Me (Dental, Vampires & Bites)

Round 2 brought a creative theme mixing dental trivia, vampire lore, and animal bites. Questions ranged from the clinical term for a cavity (caries) to which Roald Dahl character has a dentist father (Willy Wonka), to the land mammal with the strongest bite force (hippopotamus). Wager categories: "Fictional Dentists" and "Bite Force."

This was Still those people's round to dominate, and they did — scoring approximately 40,000 points with around 75% accuracy. After being completely zeroed out in Round 1, they stormed back with the highest single-round score of the first half. BNA scored about 17,000 and Hawkeye Fans about 14,000. Kid on left joined during this round but barely participated, answering only 6 questions.

Note: Detailed per-question breakdown unavailable for this round due to a missing activity export.

Round 3: Trivial Pursuit Categories

The classic Trivial Pursuit format returned with color-coded categories spanning Arts & Literature, Geography, Entertainment, Sports & Leisure, Science & Nature, and History. Questions covered everything from the author of "The Handmaid's Tale" (Margaret Atwood) to the capital of Canada (Ottawa) to which explorer's crew completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth (Ferdinand Magellan). Wager categories covered Science, History, Sports, and Literature.

Kid on left made the most of their one big round, taking first place with 34,274 points on 55% accuracy — an impressive debut performance. Hawkeye Fans (31,256 pts, 65%) edged out BNA (31,025 pts, 60%) in a tight battle for second. And once again, Still those people answered 14 of 20 correctly (70% accuracy) but ended the round with 0 points. The wager curse struck again.

Round 4: Blunders & Natural Wonders

The finale was a high-stakes mashup with escalating point values (3,000 / 4,000 / 5,000) and four wager opportunities: "NASA Disasters," "Natural Wonders Seen in Movies," "Nuclear Blunders," and "Deep Places." Questions alternated between famous disasters (the DeLorean cocaine sting, the Bhopal gas leak, the Chernobyl safety test, the Space Shuttle Columbia foam strike) and breathtaking natural phenomena (the Aurora Borealis, the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines, the pink waters of Lake Hillier, the Mariana Trench).

This round produced a dead heat at the top: BNA and Hawkeye Fans both scored exactly 53,000 points, with BNA taking the tiebreaker on accuracy (55% vs 35%). Still those people finally managed to bank some points — 3,000 — though their 45% accuracy in this harder round was their lowest of the night. Kid on left did not participate in Round 4.

By the Numbers

  • Closest finish: 1,692 points separated 1st and 2nd place across 80 questions
  • Highest accuracy: Still those people at 68% overall — yet they finished 3rd among real teams
  • Best single round: Still those people scored ~40,000 in R2 (Bite Me) after being zeroed in R1
  • Dead heat: BNA and Hawkeye Fans both hit exactly 53,000 in the final round
  • Zero-point rounds: Still those people had THREE rounds with 0 or minimal points (R1: 0, R3: 0, R4: 3,000) despite consistently high accuracy
  • The wager lesson: Still those people answered 54 of 80 correctly (68%) but scored only 43,000. BNA answered 46 correctly (57%) but scored 104,677. Wagering strategy outweighed raw knowledge by a factor of 2.4x.

The Takeaway

This was a masterclass in why trivia isn't just about knowing the answers — it's about knowing when to bet and when to play it safe. Still those people could make a legitimate claim to being the smartest team in the room, but BNA walked away with the trophy because they paired solid knowledge with smart wagering. The margin was razor-thin all night, with BNA and Hawkeye Fans trading leads across all four rounds before BNA pulled ahead in the final stretch.
