Monday night trivia at El Centenario brought a small but fierce crowd to Bettendorf for four rounds of brain-busting competition and our very own Karl Hungus debuting as a trivia host. With categories spanning epic failures, sports comedies, riddle-style "What Am I?" puzzlers, and late-1900s history, there was something to challenge everyone — and the wagering drama delivered in a big way.
| Rank | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Anti-Dentites | 126,012 |
| 2 | Three Amigos Minus One | 13,139 |
| 3 | Betty | 8,716 |
| 4 | Mike rotch burns | 6,687 |
| 5 | Taste the RAINBOW 🌈 | 4,188 |
The Anti-Dentites — also a familiar name to Friday night regulars at Front Street Taproom — made the trip to Bettendorf and absolutely ran away with this one, finishing with over 126,000 points and a margin of victory exceeding 112,000. It wasn't even close.
The opening round tested the room's knowledge of history's greatest commercial disasters, from box office bombs to failed products. Three teams squared off, and the room accuracy told the story of a genuinely tough category.
The hardest questions of the night came early. The Sega Dreamcast question (Q4) and the 2015 "Fantastic Four" reboot question (Q18) both went 0% — not a single team got either one right. On the flip side, everyone knew that "Gigli" was the infamous Affleck-Lopez bomb (Q5, 100%), that "Superman 64" was all about flying through rings (Q14, 100%), and that Ed Wood directed "Plan 9 from Outer Space" (Q19, 100%).
The Anti-Dentites took R1 with 4,424 points at 70% accuracy, closely trailed by Taste the RAINBOW at 4,188 points (60%). Three Amigos Minus One struggled at 20% but picked up a nice early get on the Waterworld question that stumped the other two teams.
R1 Question Accuracy Highlights:
Round 2 covered the greatest sports comedies in film history, from "Caddyshack" to "Talladega Nights." Unfortunately, the detailed activity data for this round was not exported, so we don't have per-question breakdowns. The cumulative standings after R2 showed the same top three from R1 with no new point movement from the original three teams, while three new teams — Williams, Betty, and Mike rotch burns — joined the game.
This is where the night got wild. The "What Am I?" round used a riddle format where each question described something without naming it — from historical treaties to obscure animals — and the wagering stakes were enormous.
Seven teams were now registered, with five actively answering. The room accuracy was solid overall, with some standout moments: the Theremin (Q3), Gustave Eiffel (Q14), and Bubble Wrap (Q17) all went 100%. The toughest question was the Axolotl (Q18) at 0% — not a single team identified the smiling Mexican salamander. The Portcullis (Q11) also proved brutal at just 20%.
But the real story was the wagering. Three wager questions appeared in R3, and they completely reshaped the standings:
Wager 1 — Q9: The Thyroid (80% accuracy among those who answered). The Anti-Dentites wagered big and won 10,863 points. Taste the RAINBOW also nailed it for 13,126. Betty was the lone miss, losing 1,560 points.
Wager 2 — Q14: Gustave Eiffel (100% accuracy). Everyone who answered got this one right. Taste the RAINBOW earned a massive 31,610 points, and The Anti-Dentites picked up 28,533. Things were looking great for both teams.
Wager 3 — Q19: Maurice Sendak (50% accuracy). This was the moment that decided the entire game. Only two teams wagered. The Anti-Dentites correctly identified the author of "Where the Wild Things Are" and earned a staggering 60,794 points. Taste the RAINBOW guessed Shel Silverstein — and lost 66,143 points. That single incorrect wager wiped out their entire round, dropping them from a competitive position to 0 points for all of R3. Despite having 70% accuracy in the round, Taste the RAINBOW walked away with nothing.
The Anti-Dentites finished R3 with 121,588 points (85% accuracy), locking in an insurmountable lead.
R3 Question Accuracy Highlights:
Round 4 was loaded with questions spanning the 1960s through the 1990s, but no teams recorded answers for this round. The final standings remained unchanged from the R3 cumulative totals.
